As you all already know, FIRST’s aim is to make STEM education accessible for young people and teach them the importance of both technical and non-technical skills. Each year more and more people focus on empowering this type of education all around the globe. To reward these people, FIRST organized its third annual FIRST Inspires Gala and honored the people who had initiatives in STEM education.
This year, the former President of the United States, Barack Obama, was awarded with the ”Make it Loud” award. Mr. Obama is an active supporter of educational programs, including FIRST. Since 2009 he launched “Educate to Innovate” campaign to support hands-on STEM education programs. During his presidency, he honored FIRST students at the White House each year.
We are so honored to be a part of the FIRST community with our BRD FIRST Tech Challenge Romania program. The kids who are a part of the program are so lucky to be inspired by FIRST values and world renowned figures who support the program.

Of course, when you think about FIRST you automatically think about BRD FIRST Tech Challenge Romania, the robotics competition dedicated to high-school students who want to learn more about tech. But what you also need to know is that FIRST is more than that.
FIRST is For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, for fun and for team work.
In all the videos recorded at the championships you will see more kids having fun and working together than robots. Maybe you are already involved in robotics or this could be your first step towards it, either way you and your team are welcomed to apply.
Team effort and dedication are awarded the most. This is because building a robot is more than just putting the pieces together. The teams communicate, help and have fun with each other, they learn how to fundraise, to create and maintain a team identity and communication channels.
The teams competing at BRD FIRST Tech Challenge Romania are made of students ready to learn new things, students who pursue the challenge even if things don’t work out at first, students who invest in a new way of learning and thinking. Those students are the future tech leaders.
BRD FIRST Tech Challenge Romania goes beyond the competition – it is the beginning of a journey in which every one of the high-school students attending start building something that lasts on the long run.

The BRD FIRST Tech Challenge 2017-2018 season game will be our most incredible game yet.
The 2017-2018 Game:
FIRST RELIC RECOVERYSM is played on 3.7m × 3.7m square field with approximately 0.3m high walls and a soft foam mat floor. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by (1) scoring Glyphs into the Cryptoboxes and completing rows, column, and ciphers, (2) transferring Relics to the Recovery Zone, (3) retrieving Jewels, (4) parking on the Balancing Stones, and (5) navigating to specific parts of the Playing Field.
Matches have two distinct periods of play: a 30-second Autonomous period followed by a two-minute Driver- Controlled period. The last 30 seconds of the Driver- Controlled period is called the End Game which adds new scoring opportunities for robots to achieve.

Season #2 is here and we couldn’t be more excited about the new challenge – FIRST Relic Recovery.
This season we will have more teams with the chance to register, regional demo events in the spring, lots of webinars and the grand final the National Championship in Bucharest, March 23-25, 2018 – Sala Polivalenta. We can’t wait to have your team registered and attending the competition.
